It’s any parent’s worst nightmare if their child stumbles upon any sort of accident. According to Babycenter, the most common childhood accidents are the following:
- Choking, strangulation, suffocation
I’ve already checked one of those from my list, as my baby had already fallen from the bed at only four months old. It happened in just under 5 seconds of looking away! Thank God she was okay! I needed to observe her for any unusual behaviors for the longest 48 hours of my life.
That’s the deal with accidents. It can happen when you least expect it and it can only take a mere second for it to occur.
For my peace of mind, I decided to enroll in a family first aid class.
The class was held in Spark Discovery Center by Dr. Daniel Luchangco and Dr. Camille Macalalag Sta. Cruz. They are both from the ER Team of Makati Med.
The coverage of the First Aid Class Seminar are as follows:
- Child and Infant CPR
- Cuts and Bruises
- Broken Bones
- Head Injury
- Animal Bites
- Nose Bleeding
- Febrile Seizure
- Making a Home First Aid Kid
Although the seminar focuses on infants and children — which is why I primarily chose this seminar, you can also still apply what you learned for all ages. For the CPR with AED, and Choking topics, they provided infant and toddler dummies for some hands on learning.
The attendees were both a mix of parents and yayas. If I have a yaya I would probably encourage her to attend this too!
Of course, prevention is always best to avoid accidents. But as much I’d love to envelope my kid with a bubble wrap before I release her to the wild, well, the reality is they will eventually need to explore and perhaps, scrape their knees along the way. When that happens, I’d like to be there armed and ready with my first aid tools and lots of mommy hugs and kisses!
SPARK DISCOVERY CENTER still has upcoming schedules for the First Aid Class! The fee is Php 2,500 inclusive of snacks and lunch. To reserve your slot, you may contact:
